Solvothermal synthesis and characterization of ytterbium/iron mixed oxide nanoparticles with potential functionalities for applications as multiplatform contrast agent in medical image techniques

A solvothermal route to prepare Glutathione capped hybrid ytterbium/iron oxide nanoparticles with potential applications as multiplatform contrast agent in medical image techniques has been developed. The influence of molar ratio used precursor, well the degree autoclave filling on structural and morphological characteristics obtained extensively studied. Although all present similar composition, YbFeO 3 being majority phase, size morphology synthetized are highly influenced by critical temperature over -saturation reached during process. We have demonstrated that glutathione properly functionalizes nanoparticles, increasing their colloidal stability decreasing cytotoxicity. Additionally, they show good imaging magnetic resonance X-ray computerized tomography, thereby indicating promising a dual agent. This work presents, for first time, functionalized Biomedicine.
